Michelle Lugalia-Hollon Reads Warsan Shire’s “Conversations About Home (at the Deportation Centre)”

Now my home is the mouth of a shark, now my home is the barrel of a gun.

I’ve been working from home this week listening to and editing the recordings from the Platicás project.

At the same time, I’m revisiting old recordings we did for the Gemini Ink podcast. This is one of my favorites of Michelle Lugalia-Hollon reading Warsan Shire‘s “Conversations About Home (at the Deportation Centre).”

6 hours a day

Figure out how to clear out 6 hours a day for life—that’s an enormous ROI.

This line caught my attention yesterday as I was listening to this Seth Godin interview online. Godin (marketer, writer, game designer, more) cut out these three things from his day:

  • Meetings (He says most meetings can be summarized in short memos instead)
  • TV
  • Facebook and Twitter

This list could easily be mine. I’ve been carrying around a new planner for a few weeks and logging lots of things by the hour—walking the dog, reading, making dinner, doing chores… I’ve devoted way too much time to The Walking Dead, Vikings, and Ray Donovan lately.
